In late 2019, Labrador Grenfell Health constructed a new garden area at the Long Term Care Facility in Happy Valley-Goose Bay with the assistance of an IGA grant, plus the support of the Rotary Club, the local chapter Grenfell Foundation, and other local partners!

This project will greatly enhance the lives of the residents of the facility, especially those with dementia, by providing them with opportunities for active engagement such as a place to garden, walk, or to simply enjoy the outdoors! This garden area permits the residents to have a soothing environment where they can sit and hang around family, friends, and caregivers.

The garden area is completely wheelchair accessible being built on a large wooden deck and furnished with beautiful tables, chairs, and some umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. There are flower beds in almost every corner, which truly allows residents to connect with nature.

Residents, their families, and staff will now be able to use this space for any events or to have large family gatherings, providing more opportunities for socialization! The IGA is extremely pleased with the outcome of this project and looks forward to residents enjoying the garden area!
