The International Grenfell Association was proud to support the Aurora Nordic Cross Country Ski Club in St. Anthony, NL, through a 2024 grant that helped fund the purchase of a much needed snowmobile. This grant will help ensure the continued maintenance and safety of the club’s 21 kilometers of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, used by more than 180 members each season.

The Aurora Nordic is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical activity and outdoor recreation for all ages. With programs like the nationally accredited Jackrabbit youth ski instruction, adult lessons, and seasonal events such as Family Fun Days and Seniors Ski & Socials, the club plays a vital role in encouraging healthy living and community connection throughout the long winter months.

The new snowmobile will be replacing a unit first purchased through IGA support back in 2010, which was used for trail grooming, event setup, and emergency access. In addition to maintaining smooth and safe trails, the snowmobile allows volunteers to respond quickly to downed trees, damaged signage, and other trail hazards. This helps to keep the trail network safe and accessible for school groups, youth organizations, and new residents experiencing winter sports for the first time.

This project aligns with the IGA’s commitment to promoting community wellness and supporting healthy lifestyles. We’re proud to help keep Aurora Nordic moving forward, one groomed trail at a time.
