Since 1974, the Southern Labrador Development Association (SLDA) has been a cornerstone of social and economic development in the Labrador Straits. Through recent IGA grant funding, SLDA has expanded its capacity to deliver essential community support services, enhancing the quality of life for residents across the region.

With assistance from the IGA, SLDA advanced its Regional Community Support Services Network, a project that grew from the organization’s Seniors Services Office. This project provided seniors with personalized guidance in navigating government programs, such as medical travel, housing renovations, and benefit applications. In addition, the Association organized wellness and social events that fostered engagement, creativity, and a stronger sense of community belonging.

Through these efforts, more than 75 seniors received direct support, and over 120 participants engaged in community-based activities. The IGA’s investment helped SLDA build the foundation for a sustainable regional support network that continues to grow, connecting individuals, municipalities, and volunteer groups throughout the Labrador Straits.

The International Grenfell Association is proud to support the SLDA in its mission to strengthen community well-being and ensure that residents of Southern Labrador have access to the resources and connections they need to thrive.
