The International Grenfell Association (IGA) is proud to support the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Early Childhood Development Association (ECDA) in its mission to provide enriching educational experiences for children in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. Through funding from the IGA, the ECDA’s Pumpkin House Childcare Centre is enhancing its licensed outdoor play space to benefit children aged 2 to 10.
Pumpkin House serves more than 70 children and is crucial for early childhood development in the Upper Lake Melville area. With limited childcare spaces and a growing population, the need for high-quality, engaging environments has never been greater.
This project focuses on upgrading and expanding outdoor play materials to align with regulated childcare standards. New upgrades will include sensory elements like mud kitchens and sensory tables, gross motor equipment such as balance beams and climbing tunnels, and creative outlets like easels and chalkboards. These resources will encourage children’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development while keeping them engaged and inspired.
Children will have access to these outdoor spaces at least twice daily. Educators will document their participation and progress to share with families and childcare representatives, ensuring a transparent and developmental approach.
Through investments like this, the IGA will continue its commitment to enhancing education and community development in Northern Newfoundland and Labrador.
