This year, the IGA awarded a grant to Ducks Unlimited Canada to conduct a student field trip to the Birch Island wetlands. In October, the grade four class at Lake Melville School participated in the program.

During their trail hike, students learned all about the importance of wetlands, while bird watching, and observing various wildlife, including two muskrats and five ducks! They also were able to catch and study invertebrates, as well as participate in educational activities throughout the day. At the end, the students made colorful wood art of the various wetland animals of Birch Island and donated them to the Birch Island board walk.

The IGA is happy to be involved in this educational project!
