The Cook’s Harbour/Wild Bight/Boat Harbour Volunteer Fire Department has been serving its region for more than 30 years, providing firefighting and emergency response services to residents in all three communities. Operated by dedicated volunteers, the department also supports other local fire departments in the region when assistance is needed. Its mission is to respond to emergencies in a safe and timely manner while protecting both residents and the volunteers who serve them.

With funding support from the International Grenfell Association (IGA), the department completed a project to strengthen its emergency response capacity through the purchase of updated firefighting equipment. The grant focused on providing firefighters with a pump better suited to current firefighting needs, helping ensure the department is properly equipped when emergencies arise.

The department’s previous pump was no longer meeting the standard required for effective fire response. Replacing this equipment was important not only for emergency situations, but also for ongoing training. Having reliable equipment available allows volunteers to participate more fully in practice routines, maintain their skills, and continue meeting training and certification requirements.

This upgrade has helped improve the department’s ability to respond across the three communities it serves. With better equipment in place, firefighters are better prepared to act when needed and can do so with greater confidence in their safety and effectiveness. For small communities, dependable emergency infrastructure plays an important role in supporting both public safety and peace of mind.

By supporting this project, the IGA has helped strengthen an important community service in Cook’s Harbour, Wild Bight, and Boat Harbour. Investments in firefighting equipment help ensure that volunteer departments have the tools they need to continue protecting residents and responding when emergencies occur.
