The Goose Bay Judo Club is a volunteer run, community based non-profit organization that has been in existence for over forty years. The club’s first Dojo was in the gym of Peacock school. A few years later the Club moved to the Labrador Training Center.
Over the years, the Goose Bay Judo Club has consistently produced quality Judokas with an impressive roster of accomplishments and awards, both of a personal nature and as a club. The Goose Bay Judo Club has relocated from their longtime home within the Central Labrador Training Centre to a dedicated program room within the new Central Labrador YMCA (CLYMCA). The Club leadership was once again overwhelmed by the interest in the Judo program from families and youth within the community. Recent registration intake was in excess of eighty members, predominantly youth (ages 7-14+). Unfortunately, given space restriction in the training room as well as coaching constraints, the Club was not able to accommodate all interested kids in the season’s training groups slots.
However, with help from the IGA, the Goose Bay Judo Club were able to customize a program setup that supports ongoing youth judo training programs and the Club’s ability to host competitions!
Funding from the IGA included customized training mats configuration, competition mats, secure equipment storage, program demonstration and coach professional development and administration equipment to assist in program delivery.
Having dedicated and appropriately sized training and competition mats will support the Club’s sustainability, while allowing registration cost to remain among the lowest in the province!
The IGA is proud to have helped support the Goose Bay Judo Club as it encourages healthy living and fitness for its many members!
