The International Grenfell Association is proud to support a new youth-focused activity led by the Plum Point Community Youth Network. With funding from the IGA, the organization recently launched a 15-week program that provides young people in the area with meaningful opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.

The Plum Point Community Youth Network, under the direction of the St. Barbe Development Association, has been a part of the region since 2009. Based out of the local Youth Centre, it serves young people from 15 nearby communities, offering programs and activities that promote both physical and mental well-being. This latest project builds on their longstanding commitment to creating a safe, supportive space for youth aged 12 to 18.

The program included a series of weekly activities that were both accessible and youth-driven. A dedicated youth coordinator is leading the initiative, which focused on three main areas: Lunch and Learn sessions, informational breakfast drop-offs, and after-school activities. Each is designed to meet the needs and interests of local youth, while also fostering healthy habits and life skills.

Lunch and Learn sessions were held during school hours at Viking Trail Academy and included a nutritious lunch along with presentations on topics that matter to young people. Guest speakers from groups like the RCMP or public health services were involved, offering insight and guidance in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

The breakfast drop-off program gave students a healthy snack to start their day, along with fun and interactive educational materials. Contests and small prizes helped keep things engaging while encouraging students to take in the information shared with them.

After-school activities offered a mix of recreation, learning, and social time, using both the Youth Centre and school spaces like the gym, wellness room, and cafeteria. These sessions helped students wind down after the school day while building friendships and positive routines.

By funding this initiative, the International Grenfell Association is helping to provide local youth with the tools, support, and encouragement they need to thrive. We’re proud to play a role in building a brighter future for the young people of Plum Point and surrounding communities.
