We’re excited to share that Labrador Straits Academy recently delivered something brand new and hands-on to its students: the Mini LEGO Challenge. With help from a grant provided by the International Grenfell Association, this event provided students with a chance to dive into STEM learning in a fun and interactive way using LEGO Education SPIKE kits.
The recent event – which also included students from St. Lewis Academy – included all kinds of engaging activities, such as a 14-step “Submerged” challenge where students worked together to solve problems, and a beginner robotics challenge introduced in the region for the very first time. There were also STEM workshops and plenty of opportunities for students to connect with others who share an interest in science, technology, and robotics.
This kind of experience is especially important in rural areas like southern Labrador, where access to new learning tools and technology can sometimes be limited. The team at Labrador Straits Academy is working hard to make sure students have what they need, from LEGO kits and expansion packs to competition tables, so everyone could take part!
We’re proud to support this initiative and help bring exciting STEM opportunities to students in the IGA region. Programs like this open doors, encourage curiosity, and help prepare youth for a future in fields they might not have imagined were possible.
