The IGA would like to highlight Amelia Jones from Forteau as a student who has received a Bursary from the IGA each year of her 5 year post-secondary education. She is entering her final year as a student at MUN where she is pursuing a Joint-Honours Degree in Behavioural Neuroscience and Biology. Amelia is using her impressive education to help investigate the role of various brain structures and neurotransmitters on brain plasticity, and how it may pertain to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease.

According to Amelia, there is a massive change in lifestyle accompanied with moving from rural NL to St. John’s. It entails leaving your family, friends and all the comforts associated with home. The added financial burden makes the prospect of this formidable, however she states that

“Thanks to the support of the International Grenfell Association, I found the confidence to take that first step forward, to become responsible for my future, and to be able to focus on my studies without also dealing with the tremendous financial burden that this endeavour carries.”

Congratulations Amelia, we couldn’t be more proud to support such an excellent student and person!
