Hannah Connors of Happy Valley-Goose Bay graduated from Mealy Mountain Collegiate in 2014. She is now completing a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in chemistry, and wants to complete a French minor. Hannah is attending Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec; although originally apprehensive about leaving home to attend, she says she is very happy with her choice.

While in high school, Hannah volunteered with numerous organizations. She was a founding member of her school’s breakfast program, the captain of their girls’ volleyball team, and participated in school/church choirs. She also received Senior Student Volunteer of the Year and SOAR awards (the SOAR award is given to a student who receives recognition for success, opportunities, attitude, and respect).

Hannah has kept up with volunteering while at university, dedicating her time to the women’s volleyball club, chemistry club, residence events committee, and assisting with campus tours at her school. Additionally, while at home during the summer, Hannah works at a local pool (where she used to lifeguard and teach swimming lessons).

After graduating university, Hannah wants to move back to NL. She says she may not go home to Goose Bay, but wants to stay close to her family and give back to the province. She wants a career where she can help people and provide them with similar opportunities that she was given. Hannah is high interested in working in a laboratory in the future. She is very interested in the hands-on work during her courses, and enjoys the 15 weekly hours she spends in the lab.
