Bursary recipient Tamara Belben of L’Anse au Loup is a kinesiology student at Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus. She hopes to become a physiotherapist after finishing her degree, saying she chose this field because she has always had a passion for helping others.
In high school, Tamara took on many volunteer roles. She was a student representative on her school’s council, vice president of student council, president of graduation committee, and a volunteer tutor. Tamara was a participant in the first Labrador Straits Relay for Life (she was also a participant of the Relay on campus at MUN) and was nominated by her high school principal for the Schulich Leadership Scholarship in grade 12.
Tamara was a member of several sports teams in high school. She played on the senior girls volleyball team (where she was named captain in her final year), ball hockey team, broomball team, and was a member of the local ski club.
In the future, Tamara wants to use her experiences to help and inspire others. She hopes to return to Labrador when she concludes her post-secondary education, stating that she wants to be close to her family and her roots.
